EDUCATION

Obesity is a treatable disease that is a worldwide health concern associated with having an excess amount of body fat. Obesity is diagnosed by a healthcare provider and is classified as having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater. In order to treat obesity, you first have to know what it is and how it's caused. One of MOC's goal is to provide reliable science-based information and educational resources as well as programs that teach the "what" and "how" of obesity.

We realize how important your peer learning is while you’re on your journey to better health. Getting involved in a program that features peer learning, support groups and/or social networks is a great way to connect with others with common goals who are facing the same challenges and triumphs.

COVID-19 AND OBESITY

Having obesity increases the risk of severe illness from COVID-19. People who are overweight may also be at increased risk. Obesity may triple the risk of hospitalization due to a COVID-19 infection because obesity is linked to impaired immune function.
